tyre rotation

When was the last time your tyres were rotated and balanced?

While driving, tyres are your only contact to the road surface. It grips you down while accelerating, changing direction or when coming to a stop. But still, people tend to skip proper tyre care. Tyre Rotation Why is it done? Even wear: The front tyres wear out faster than the back ones because of the weight of the engine and the fact that the front tyres do the steering and braking. If you rotate your tyres regularly, you can make sure all four tyres wear out evenly, which will help them last longer. Safety: Tyre rotation benefits the safety of the vehicle. Uneven tyre wear can be dangerous for your car. Worn-out tyres are more likely to skid, hydroplane, and get punctured, which can lead to accidents. Rotating your tyres regularly can help prevent these issues by making sure all four tyres have enough tread. Cost-effective: Rotating your tyres regularly can save you money in the long run. If you extend the life of your car tyres, you won’t have to replace them as often, which means more money in your pocket. Improved fuel efficiency: Remember to keep an eye on your tyre wear. If your tyres wear unevenly, your car might start pulling to one side, which can lead to higher fuel consumption. To keep things running smoothly and save money on gas, make sure to rotate your car tyres regularly. Better vehicle handling: When all four tyres have good tread, your car will be more stable and easier to handle, which could make your driving experience better and make you a better driver. How is it done? Tyres in the rear are changed to the front axle and vice versa in a specific pattern. You can do it yourself. But, reaching out to a tyre rotation service provider or the authorised service centre is the better option. Wheel Balancing Why is it done? The wheels and tyres are not necessarily balanced perfectly all the way around. Some parts will always be thicker and heavier than others. And when one side of a wheel is heavier or lighter than the other, it’ll cause the wheel to vibrate as it spins. The faster you go, the more noticeable the vibration becomes. Wheel/tyre balancing takes care of this problem. How is it done? The wheel is spun and the measurements of the amount of vibration are taken. This helps the machine detect how the weight is distributed, how much weight is to be added and where on the wheel to attach it. If the technician finds an imbalance, they might need to rebalance and adjust it by adding more weights. In some cases, they may also have to reposition the tyre on the wheel and then rebalance it. This is because a heavy spot on the wheel and tyre can sometimes align, causing a bigger imbalance that needs fixing.

How to choose a used car?

Getting a used car is a tricky proposition on so many levels. Here is a used car buying guide. These are the important things you must check while getting a second hand car. The mandatory document check Make sure to check that all the necessary papers are in order and that the owner has them. Don’t rely only on virtual copies. Also, ensure that any loans on the vehicle have been fully paid off. Is it running, is it running well? Every car’s heart is the engine, so start by checking the engine first. It’s best to do this in the early morning. Pay attention to how long it takes for the engine to start. Listen for any unusual noises. Once the engine is running, accelerate it up to 3000-4000 RPM and listen for any unusual noises. Also, keep an eye out for excessive smoke. Leaks say a lot Check for any oil leaks from the engine or inside the hood. If everything looks unusually clean under the hood of the used car for sale, the owner or broker may be hiding something. If you’re purchasing a diesel car, inspect the condition of the turbo for any leaks. While driving, listen closely for any whistling sounds coming from the turbo. Electrical trouble Check headlights, indicators, seat belt warning sensors, wipers, music system, power window, rear view mirror adjuster, sunroof, etc. Get inside the car, turn on the key and check whether there is any warning light on in the instrument cluster. Have an eye for detail Inspect the car’s interior, including the dashboard, headliner, doors, and seats to ensure they are in good condition. Look for any dents, scratches, or areas that need paint. Additionally, check for colour variations between the outer panels in daylight, as these could indicate repaint work. Ensure the headlights, tail lamps, and alloys are also in good condition by conducting a close inspection for cracks. Lessons from the history Visit an authorised service centre for the specific vehicle and request to see the complete service history. Review each service record and note the cost of each service or repair, as well as the exact nature of the repair. Additionally, check for any insurance claims history, particularly if they indicate any prior accidents. If you are unable to find any service history, it is advisable to refrain from purchasing the vehicle unless it is in exceptional condition and you or your mechanic are completely confident in its quality. Drive and decide Remember to drive the car for at least 50 km in different manner: use full throttle, drive at low speeds and in higher gears, and turn the AC on and off. Make sure the clutch is not loose and shifts smoothly for all gears. Check by changing gears multiple times and ensure the car picks up speed properly with no jerking when releasing the clutch. Press the throttle fully and rev the engine up to 3000–4000 RPM to check the engine response and engine noise. Also, drive the car at 30–40 km/h and let go of the steering to check if the car veers to one side, as this could indicate a major issue or improper wheel alignment. Get it from the first owner Always prefer to buy a car from the first or second owner. Avoid cars with a third owner. If you are still buying, then don’t pay too much for it. Diesel vs Petrol vs CNG Most petrol cars will be in good condition, while the same cannot be said for diesel cars. Additionally, diesel cars require heavier maintenance compared to petrol orCNG cars, and diesel engine parts are also costly. If you are purchasing a CNG car, ensure that the CNG kit is government-authorised, and the owner has the necessarypapers for the kit. Where to buy used vehicles? Always prefer to buy a car only from the owner or an authorised dealer like Maruti Suzuki True Value. True Value promises high-quality & reliable pre-owned cars, digitally evaluated on 376 checkpoints. Second-hand cars from multiple brands are available at fair & transparent prices. Visit the Sarathy True Value showroom to find the car that fits your requirements.

What to do after an accident?

A road accident can come unannounced. Here’s the best course of action you can undertake if you get involved in an accident, and how to claim vehicle insurance 1. Stop the Car If you’re in a car accident, you have to stop at the scene. Even if it’s a minor accident, don’t leave, as you could face legal action. Stay calm and avoid arguing with the other driver. 2. Check for Injury First, check for injuries. Start by checking yourself for any injuries, then check others. Assess the level of injury for everyone involved in the accident. Also, check if any bystanders were injured so you can claim compensation through third party car insurance. 3. Get Immediate Medical Help If someone has minor injuries, you should provide first aid as soon as possible. Your car has a basic first aid kit for minor injuries. If someone is seriously injured or non-responsive, call an ambulance right away. Remember to take care of your own body and seek medical advice if needed. 4. Contact Your Insurance Company Remember to contact your car insurance company as soon as you’ve helped the injured. Call the company that provides your car insurance and report the accident. Provide them with detailed and honest information about the damages to your car and any damages to a third party. Giving incorrect information could result in your claim being rejected, so be sure to be completely truthful. 5. File a Police FIR If you’re in a car accident, make sure to inform the police right away. You’ll also need to fill out a report, called a First Information Report (FIR), if you’re making an insurance claim involving another person. Keep a copy of the FIR to give to your insurance company when you file your claim. 6. Take Photos Remember to take clear photos of the damages at the accident site for the insurance company. Photograph the damage to your car, the other party’s property, and the accident location from all angles. Clear photos will help the insurance claim process go smoothly. 7. Submit Documents & File a Claim After reporting the incident, you will need to submit some documents to file a claim for your car accident. The required documents are valid driving license copy, Police FIR copy, RC copy, car insurance documents, and repair estimates. 8. Repair Your Car Before repairing your car, the insurance company may send someone to check how much repair work is needed. Then you can get your car fixed at the authorized garage of the insurance company. The insurance company will arrange for your damaged car to be towed. You can also choose to get your car fixed at a garage that is not authorized and ask the insurance company to pay you back for the costs. 9. Car Insurance Claim Settlement After your car is fixed, your insurance company will pay the network garage directly if it’s a cashless claim. If you choose a non-network garage, the insurance company will reimburse you after you pay for the repairs. Keep all repair bills and receipts for an easy reimbursement process. 10. Choosing a Vehicle Insurance Policy Remember, car accidents can be distressing. If you insure your vehicle with a car insurance policy, you can save yourself from heavy repair costs. Purchasing at least a third-party car insurance policy is mandatory, but you can also choose a comprehensive policy to cover your car as well as third-party liabilities in case of an accident. Maruti Suzuki Insurance – Ensures hassle-free Insurance experience for the customer with the highest level of fairness and transparency in the insurance claim process with No Hidden Charges. Get your policy and enjoy peace of mind!

Some rules to know before hitting the road

Traffic rules should be followed for the no-nonsense reason of avoiding accidents. Here are the basic traffic rules a car driver should be aware of. Keep Left – The basic rule of all. Because you cannot be confused or confuse others about which side of the road you are travelling on. Entering and exiting the road – You park your car on the side of the road, right? Because most people do. When entering the road, put the indicator towards the side you are entering and make sure there is no oncoming vehicle. When exiting the road, slow down gradually, put the indicator towards the left or whichever side you are exiting to. Never hesitate to slow down – We all like to drive at our own pace. But it is important that we slow down our vehicles where visibility is low and where there is a greater chance of pedestrian crossing or when we reach slower moving traffic. Park wisely – When parking your car, check whether parking is prohibited in the area. Do not park on footpaths, or on the side of pedestrian crossings. Also refrain from parking where the road is too narrow. Be wary of the lines – We have single, two, three, four and multiple, lane systems. Always drive completely within your lane. In case of a lane change, check the rear view mirror and indicate towards the side you are changing the lane. Also, do not cross the yellow line and continuous white line to overtake on a single lane road. Use horn judiciously – Incessant honking can create sound pollution and create unnecessary stress for the drivers. Keep distance – Maintain an adequate distance from the vehicle ahead of you to avoid collision if that vehicle happens to slow down or stop. Do not brake suddenly – Do not brake suddenly in the middle of the road unless it is absolutely necessary for safety reasons. Visibility is the key – Slow down when you cannot see the road ahead properly because of a curve, rain, fog, smoke, etc. Visibility during the night is often low. Therefore, drive extra-cautious. Dip your lights for oncoming traffic – When considering the matter of visibility, it is important to note that night visibility is often compromised by the high beam light of the vehicles. Therefore, give consideration to the oncoming traffic and dip your lights for the safety of everyone. Practise safe overtaking – Avoid overtaking if your visibility is limited to less than 150 metres due to a hill, curve, or narrowing road, or if the road conditions make it difficult to see ahead. If you see a vehicle behind you beginning to overtake or if the driver ahead has not given a signal to pass, do not attempt to overtake. Do not overtake a vehicle that has stopped at a pedestrian crossing, intersection, or railway crossing. Switch off your ego while being overtaken – When a faster driver attempts to overtake your vehicle, slow down and give way. Give way to pedestrians – Prioritise pedestrians at Zebra crossings. Also, be wary of pedestrians at places like shopping centres, busy intersections, schools, parks and residential areas where children and others have a greater need of crossing the road. Wishing you happy roads ahead!

Tips for Beginner Drivers

Essential Driving Tips for Beginner Drivers

Driving is fun for some, a livelihood for others, and is often considered a basic skill as far as modern society is concerned. The learning curve differs depending on the individual. Some may feel confident from the get-go, but some struggle on the road even after becoming a licensed driver. If you feel lost in the mechanics of it all, here are some basic tips that can help you en route to becoming a competent driver. The Basics When you learn a new skill, it is always better to learn from the experts. Enroll at a driving school and learn driving in a standard and safe manner. Hit the roads on your own only after getting the drivers’ license. Also, it is mandatory that you know the rules before getting to real-world driving. Tips for Beginner Drivers Once you are in the drivers’ seat with a license, buckle up! Adjust your vehicle according to your preference – Depending on your vehicle model and make, it might have seat and steering adjustments. Play with the settings and get comfortable in the first place. Secondly, check the mirrors and make sure you have a 360-degree view of your surroundings Choose a knowledgeable and patient co-driver – For many people, driving gets challenging because of the one guiding them. Therefore, that choice is paramount. Know the vehicle – Your vehicle has many controls and switches for various purposes. Getting comfortable with the position of those controls can make the learning process easier. Choose a road with less traffic – You are into learning something new. So you are bound to make mistakes. Therefore, choose a route that makes your learning process less chaotic and more calmer. Also, it would be more convenient if you choose familiar roads. Turn down the music – While driving you need all your senses at your stead. Blasting loud music can take away your sense of how much the engine is revving and even affect your reaction time as you might be grooving to the music rather than looking out for possible danger. Practice frequently – If your practice gets long breaks in between, your learning might take more sessions. Be calm – Driving involves making decisions one after the other. Therefore it is important to have clarity of thought while sitting in the driver’s seat. Also, it is important that you don’t worry about what others think or be too stressed about honking from around. Just be at peace and take it at your own pace. Look ahead – Your vehicle even when driven slowly is at a much higher pace than your walking speed. Looking ahead is therefore a priority as it gives you more time to react. Learn in a car that’s in good shape – When you are learning a new skill, it’s mandatory to have sound equipment. Also, a healthy car is a safe car. Parking is driving too – If you are taking your car out, you will eventually come to a stop somewhere. It might be at the side of a road, a parking lot. Therefore, it is also a part of driving. An imperfect parking can create inconvenience to others and might even cause accidents. Always be prepared – Indian roads can throw you surprises one after the other. The only way to stay composed is to anticipate every possibility at all times and be ready to make the move. You will eventually get the hang of it and will become a second nature for you. Till then, wishing you a happy learning! Know the rules – Rules are coined for the safety of all. There might be moments that you feel you are not in harm’s way even if you are not following rules. But it is a false sense of safety. Therefore, follow the lines, lights, speed limits, and all traffic signs judiciously. Use your horn and turn indicators correctly – These are important tools for communicating with other drivers while on the road. Use them as needed, but be sure to do so wisely and considerately. Do not tailgate – Not maintaining a safe distance from the car in front decreases your reaction time as well as the space available for maneuvering. Do not overspeed – Your first few successful stints at maneuvering your car might give you a false sense of confidence to pick up your speed. As a beginner, it is important to refrain from that.
